Our history began in 2002 when a small group of Spiritists, residing in Maryland got together to study and practice Spiritism, as well as conduct charitable activities, following the example of many Spiritist Societies around the world.
In 2003, the group was incorporated as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and registered under the name Bezerra de Menezes Spiritist Society (BMSS) in honor of Dr. Bezerra de Menezes, our Spiritual Patron.
BMSS has grown since the early weekly meetings at a member’s home. Today the group meets at a central location, renting a room, to accommodate all interested people and the increasing activities of the Society.
BMSS is affiliated with the United States Spiritist Federation.
In 2017, BMSS adopted a trade name: Germantown Spiritist Society (GSS). The new name is not only easier to remember, but also helps in identifying our location for those in northern Montgomery County, Frederick, and surrounding areas seeking a closer Spiritist Center.
Germantown Spiritist Society’s mission is to offer enlightenment and consolation through the study and practice of Spiritist teachings.
If you would like to support GSS, go to ‘Our Activities’ and ‘Get Involved’ pages and see how to participate.
